  Preparing to Charter

A "Preparing to Charter Course" has been expressly designed to provide the necessary skills required to handle a yacht in a safe manner. Charter companies and operators now prefer this level of understanding.   It not only improves the delight and well-being of the holiday maker, it greatly reduces the risk of accidents.
 


A highly practical course with comprehensive notes, and conducted onboard a beautiful Beneteau similar to the type of yacht often chartered. It is a safe and stable platform not requiring super-strength to operate.
 
Your syllabus includes:
Sailing & Steering a yacht
Knowledge of sea terms, Rules of the road
Personal safety equipment
Sail handling, reefing, use of halyards, sheets and winches
Engine starting, stopping and standard operating procedures
Passage Planning, Weather and Forecasts
Tides and tide flow, the effect of wind, waves and current
Introduction to navigation Marine Charts & Bouyage
Anchoring, Berthing, Safe mooring and anchor light requirements
Handling a yacht under power and the use of prop walk
Living on board a yacht, storage, fresh water use, fuel, and toilet facilities
Use of Marine radio for communications
Responsibilities when using charter vessels
Where to go and what to see
 
Cost:  $225 pp, Adults ONLY. GST incl
 
This course runs for 2 x 3 hours on water sessions, Plus a 2 hour evening theory session and operates either during the week or weekend; time frames morning or afternoon are available.  Bookings should be made early.

Special Note:
It is highly recommended that a minimum of 2 persons from each charter attend this course, there are instances when specific sailing / motoring techniques require 2 persons to complete the maneuver.
